Our list of top 10 quarterbacks entering the 2026 Georgia high school football season is led by a number of 2027 standouts, a couple of juniors, and a sophomore.
1. Jayce Johnson | Lowndes | C/O 2027
Leading our list is Lowndes senior quarterback Jayce Johnson. The Texas A&M commit will enter the upcoming 2026 season as a three-year starter for the Vikings, with the hopes of leading Lowndes to its first Region 1-7A championship since he assumed the starting role on offense, along with making a deep run in the state playoffs.
Johnson has emerged as one of the most electrifying dual-threat quarterbacks in the state, with a four-star rating from 247Sports. He is coming off an injury-riddled 2025 season that caused him to miss playing time early in the season. He passed for 1,182 yards with 11 touchdowns and rushed for 14 touchdowns with 658 yards last year.
2. Kharim Hughley | Gainesville | C/O 2027
Gainesville quarterback Kharim Hughley is our No. 2 QB as he returns for his third and final season as the Red Elephants’ starter. Hughley led Gainesville to the Class 5A state championship game last year and will kick off his senior season against Buford in Week 1.
Hughley has been committed to Clemson for two seasons.
He will showcase his talents as one of the top quarterbacks in the country at Nike’s 2026 Elite 11 in Beaverton, Oregon, in June.
3. Derrick Baker | Milton | C/O 2027
Our No. 3 quarterback was also plagued by injuries last year.
Derrick Baker of Milton was injured in his first game with the Eagles last year during a season-opening, nationally televised contest against Buford. He missed the majority of the rest of the season, but that hasn’t affected his recruitment. He committed to the University of Tennessee this offseason after receiving numerous offers.
Despite his limited playing time, college recruiters understand the impact Baker can make, and likely will this season, as he returns from injury.
4. Chandler Dyson | Warner Robins | C/O 2028
Warner Robins junior Chandler Dyson is the highest-rated Class of 2028 quarterback on our top 10 list.
Ranked No. 4, Dyson is a four-star, dual-threat QB who passed for 2,138 yards and 16 touchdowns last season for the Demons. He also rushed for 536 yards and four touchdowns.
Dyson is a top 10 SC Next Jr 300 selection in their ranking of the top Class of 2028 quarterbacks nationwide.
5. CJ Cypher | Carrollton | C/O 2029
Carrollton sophomore CJ Cypher is our No. 5 QB heading into the 2026 season. How good is the Class of 2029 standout? He had 2,600 combined yards with 30 touchdowns in his freshman season last year as he split time with Mason Holtzclaw. Cypher completed 71% of his passes with just three interceptions.
He has offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Indiana, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, and Auburn.
6. DJ Hunter | Buford | C/O 2027
Our No. 6 QB is one of the lesser-known Georgia high school quarterbacks entering the 2026 season, but he likely won’t stay that way for long.
DJ Hunter will take over the Buford Wolves offense this season, and already the Class of 2027 signal-caller is receiving rave reviews. He played sparingly last season in a backup role after transferring to Buford from Bearden High School in Tennessee, where he played in 2024 and was rated as a top 15 junior quarterback by 247Sports.
He is a former University of Kentucky commit but has reopened his recruitment heading into the 2026 season.
7. Ben Musser | Jackson County | C/O 2027
Ben Musser is a Class of 2027 four-star recruit who transferred from Prince Avenue Christian to Jackson County in the offseason.
He made our top 10 list last season as a junior, with at least 18 different offers from major college programs. He was a verbal commit to Virginia Tech, but following a coaching change with the Hokies, Musser opted to reopen his recruitment and is now committed to Appalachian State.
In 2025, Musser threw for 2,042 yards with 25 touchdowns at Prince Avenue Christian while rushing for 540 yards and nine touchdowns.
8. Trace Hawkins | Calhoun | C/O 2028
Our No. 8 quarterback is Calhoun junior Trace Hawkins. This Class of 2028 standout first made headlines when he led Calhoun to the GHSA Class 3A state championship as a freshman in 2024.
With two more seasons remaining, the four-star quarterback, according to Rivals, has already received numerous college offers, including from LSU, Duke, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Georgia Tech.
There are sure to be more as Hawkins leads the Yellow Jackets into the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
9. Brodie Campbell | Newnan | C/O 2027
Brodie Campbell of Newnan is our No. 9 QB heading into the 2026 season. The three-star recruit is committed to Georgia Tech after receiving 30 Division I offers.
The Class of 2027 pro-style standout is heading into his senior season and fourth year as a starter for the Cougars. He has thrown for over 5,400 yards and 49 touchdowns in his first three years at Newnan.
10. Lyndon Worthy | Worth County | C/O 2027
Lyndon Worthy of Worth County is our No. 10 QB for the upcoming 2026 Georgia high school football season, the second consecutive year he has made our top 10 list as one of the best quarterbacks in the state.
He led Worth County to a 15-0 season and a state championship last year, throwing for over 3,000 yards with 28 touchdowns and a 67% completion percentage.
He now has over 9,000 passing yards in his first three seasons.
Worthy led the Rams to nine wins and the quarterfinals in 2024 before coming back even stronger last year.
Worthy is a winner, and it will be fun seeing what the Rams senior does in 2026.
