Who’s Back
The Tocoi Creek Toros enter their second season as a team, and according to Coach Mike Kolakowski, key players he’s looking to for leadership in year two include the following: Charles Allsup, a 5-foot-8 LB/FB who Kolakowski calls “a smart, heady middle linebacker that loves to play the game;” outside linebacker Antonio Juarez; and slot receiver/RB Kaiz Abdul Ragland, who was selected as the Jacksonville Jaguars/Whataburger Player of the Week for his performance in the Toros’ first-ever win last season.
RB Wendell Deen, and OL Dylan Freet also return. Returning QBs Ryan Kilmer and Cade Fourman will battle it out for the starting job this season, but Kolakowski said both will likely see time behind center.
What To Expect
The Toros will play a full 10-game schedule and it will all feel a bit more real than it did last season. Tocoi Creek had no expectations placed upon it in 2021, but this season will be much different. Truth is, last season was not too bad, considering everything was brand new, and the team didn’t even get a stadium or practice field to call their own until late in the season.
There will be new faces in new positions heading into game one, according to Kolakowski. The team played Yulee in the spring contest, and the head coach said his team looked really solid in the first half, trailing just 10-7 after the first half of play. Things did not go so well in the second half – “We just came out flat in the third quarter, and I was not happy about that,” Kolokowski said – but the Toros should get better, with each game providing experience for the players.
Prediction
Look for the Toros to be better. 5-5 overall record.
