2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 7-4
  • Points Scored: 264
  • Points Against: 169

Key Losses

Parker loses some major talent from last season, starting with University of Michigan-bound DB Damani Dent, who had 147 tackles with seven interceptions as a Brave. He returned two of those picks for a TD. Another former Brave who will be missed is ATH Tyreek Williams, who last season had eight catches for 118 yards and a score. He also had seven TD passes from the QB position and completing 27 of 51 pass attempts for 491 yards. He also blocked a punt, and as the team’s punter he averaged 31.6 yards per punt on 34 punts.

David Hamilton was a CB/WR who had 41 tackles with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on defense, and a 15 receptions with 323 receiving yards and five TDs on the offensive side. Williams and Hamilton are are continuing their football careers at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. The Braves will miss kicker Jhayrold Calderon, who was solid last season with 25 of 30 PAT converted, and four of six on FG attempts, including his longest from 35 yards away. Former QB Roman Doles has transferred and will not return to the Braves in 2022.

Who’s Back

Returning for the Braves and head coach Char-ron Dorsey is senior DB/ATH CJ Dorsey, an All-State selection who has been an interception machine over the last two seasons with 10 picks, including a pick-six. He also has 62 tackles and a fumble recovery. On offense, he has 28 carries for 188 yards with three TDs along with 24 catches for 270 yards and a TD. On special teams, he has 320 kick return yards and 391 punt return yards.

Also returning is senior RB Darrell Sawyer, who has 86 carries for 538 rushing yards with four TDs. Returning to the defensive line is three-star DL/OL Anthony Dorsey, who totaled 33 tackles last season, including four sacks and two TFL. On the offensive line, Dorsey was credited with five pancake blocks.

LB Lashun Mays is a newcomer to the Braves this season, and he’ll be a huge addition to the roster at MLB.  All-State offensive lineman Kmorie Gilchrist returns to give the Braves offense an experienced presence in pass protection and run blocking this season. Junior QB Jaylen Pettway is back, and Dorsey says he could see action at that position this year.

What To Expect

Look for Parker High to be right back in the mix as they move into the new Metro Class 3M with Fletcher, First Coast and Englewood. They return a couple of All-State performers on the offensive line in Gilchrist and ATH CJ Dorsey, both of whom will give the Braves much-needed skill and experience at important spots on the field.

Losing Damani Dent to Michigan is a big loss, but Dorsey will help soften that blow. The biggest question mark could be at quarterback, where 2021 starter Roman Doles is no longer playing for Terry Parker. Pettway doesn’t have a whole lot of experience, so keep an eye on the all-important signal caller position for Dorsey’s Braves in 2022.

Prediction

Parker finishes about where they were last season: 7-4
