Without trying out for the team or playing in a single game, an integral member of the Fleming Island High School baseball team was recognized by coaches and teammates Tuesday night.
The team’s manager, Shayne Strickland, was presented with a new award named after him honoring his dedication.
The award recognizes Strickland’s passion, commitment to his team, love for the game, and the positive impact he has through his friendships with each teammate.
Strickland, who has pervasive developmental delay, was recruited by the team because of his excitement and enthusiasm, and has become an important part of the Fleming High School baseball family.
The passion and hard work that Strickland puts into every aspect of being team manager inspires his teammates and coaches and helps them to remember that baseball goes far beyond wins and losses- discipline, hard work and dedication are crucial parts of the game.
Through his pure love for his team and the game Shayne shows us what it means to Live In The Game in and outside of the dugout.
