Coming into the 1A Private state semifinals, ELCA was expected to win. They outnumbered St. Vincent’s in overall record, ranking, and win percentage. Despite the odds, the Saints upset the Chargers in a nail-biting match ending 3-2. To make the upset worse, ELCA had beaten St. Vincent’s earlier in the season in two straight sets.
St. Vincent’s is now set to play the Brookstone Cougars on Oct. 24 for the 1A Private state title. This is the first matchup of these two teams so far this season, and it is anyone’s game.
