Senators Push for Playoff Rebirth

It is difficult to be around Jacksonville Beach and not notice the enormous amount of pride the town has for its football team. Almost everywhere you look you can see the familiar purple and white. Friday nights around the beaches are truly a spectacle. The whole community comes together to watch its football team. It’s a place where everyone knows one another.

Head Coach Kevin Brown looks to reestablish the team to the powerhouse they once were. Under his first year at the helm, Brown has led the team to an 8-2 season. Their two losses were to Lee and Colombia, who were among the top finishers in the district.

However, Fletcher didn’t stop at a winning season. They have been working since January in both the film and weight room to come back stronger than ever.

Brown’s multi-headed offense is pivotal for the goals he plans to accomplish this season. Brown has a triple running back set up. Calvin Lewis, Anthony Evelyn and Travon Williams are all key to the success of the offense.

“With the new FHSAA rules all games are important,” he said. “The district games are a priority.” Coach Brown has his work cut out for him facing Lee and Colombia again for the 2017 season.

Leading the team is college prospect Anthony Evelyn. Evelyn is among their leaders in rushing, touchdowns, receptions and interceptions. Fellow prospects include offensive lineman Dalton Hamm, wide receiver Jerimiah Payton, corner back CJ Smith and wide receiver Jai Williams.

With a team philosophy of “one heartbeat, one unit” the Senators will need to come together if they want to reestablish their dominance in the district.
