Venue
Martin Stadium
Valdosta, Ga.

The Colquitt County Packers are in cruise control.  And when you’re as dominant as they are on a weekly basis, that’s far from a bad thing.

The defending GHSA Class AAAAAA State Champions are off to a tremendous start once again, as they went into their bye week with a perfect 5-0 record.  Going back to the 2014 season, they are currently riding a 19-game win streak.  Over the course of last year, the Packers rode to the title on an average of nearly 46 points per game (45.8) while allowing just over 18.

Four weeks into the 2015 season, and the champs have yet to let off the gas.  In fact, they’ve pressed harder.  Through four games, they are averaging an astonishing 48 points per game while only allowing 12.8.

Their next matchup will take them to the confines of the Concrete Palace, where they will open region play against the 4-1 Lowndes Vikings.  After an opening week loss to the Roswell Hornets (Roswell, Ga.), the Vikings have reeled off four straight wins by an average of 50.5 points per contest (while holding their opposition to a mere 10 points per game).  Their most impressive output thus far has been a 63-0 dismantling of the Rockdale County Bulldogs in Week Four.

For the Packers, the focus has been their air attack.  Through five games, senior quarterback Chase Parrish has completed 58 of 84 attempts (69 percent), totaling 871 yards and 14 touchdowns.  His success has been shared with 13 receivers, led by senior Kiel Pollard (18 receptions, 301 yards, seven touchdowns).  Tory Ponder (142), Ty Lee (134), Sheronsky Sloan (132), and Shaun Bonner (102) round out the 100-plus yard receivers thus far for the Pack.

To combat the offensive power of the Pack, the Vikings will have to take full advantage of the solid trio of Tyson Harris, Coyshon Roberts, and Logan Neeley, who have combined for 53 tackles on the year.  Harris has also contributed with an interception on the season (the team has a total of four).  On the other side of the ball, senior quarterback Austin Dixon has been impressive for Lowndes, with 704 passing yards on the season (59-78, 12 touchdowns).  Dixon has also had a huge impact on the ground, giving the Vikings 319 yards on 45 carries.

It’s sure to be an exciting affair as two of South Georgia’s powerhouses clash in the opening week of region play.  Be sure to check in through the Scorestream app to stay on top of everything happening on Friday nights!
