New Look to Colquitt County Softball Program

Colquitt County sports have recently been taking steps in the right direction, as of late. The most recent change occurred within the softball program, the switch occurred at the head coaching position. Long-time assistant, Chance Pitts, is finally getting a chance as the head coach of the Lady Packers. Pitts is replacing Jake Mobley, who was the head coach of the Lady Packers for the last three seasons.

Mobley decided to take a position as an athletic director, focusing more on administration. Mobley earned a 48-49 record in his three years as the coach, but now its Pitts turn to leave his mark on the program.

Pitts has been apart of the team for the past six seasons; he was the head coach of the junior varsity softball team and so the upcoming varsity team should be familiar with his face. Chance is the son of Colquitt County Packer legend, Craig Pitts, who was an exceptional football, baseball, and softball coach at the school. The head coach is not the only new face the softball team will see this year.

Colquitt made another change by bringing in Alyssa Simmons as the pitching coach; she will also be the head coach of the junior varsity/9th-grade teams. Taylor Barber is a former pitcher for Colquitt Co. and will be in control of the infielders; Jeff Henderson will be heading the catchers due to his experience in middle school coaching.

All of the new coaches will have the task of improving a squad that went 12-20 last season. Pitts looks to use what he learned from past coaches and his experience in order to take the program in the right direction.
