New Head Coach Tries to Keep the Ball Rolling for Yulee

The Yulee Hornets have a new but familiar face at the helm this year as head coach. Josh Burch takes over this year, replacing Bobby Ramsey, who took the head coaching job at Mandarin High School. Burch was the defensive coordinator last season and offensive line coach the year before that.

Last season was a good one for the Hornets, going 6-4 and making the playoffs for the first time since 2012 during their Derrick Henry era. The Hornets playoff run was cut short due to a loss to state championship runner up Ponte Vedre. “The difference in the game was maturity, our guys just seemed younger,” Burch said. The Hornets are losing their workhorse running back Jamari Peacock, who is now playing at Virginia.

Looking at this upcoming season, the team has a lot of returning players, which is something they are excited about due to their lack of experience in the playoffs last year. Brannon Beverly, senior inside linebacker, returns as one of the stars of their defense along with Jordan Richo, a junior linebacker. The teams they are marking on their schedule are rivals Fernandina Beach and West Nassau.

The Hornets hope to make noise in the playoffs and go past more than the first round like last year. Can a first year head coach bring them to that?
