We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Miami Northwestern football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.
2021 Stats
- Overall Record: 10-4
- Points Scored: 513
- Points Allowed: 317
Key Losses
For what was a truly elite Bulls passing attack last season, it’s no surprise that Miami Northwestern’s biggest losses come on offense, in particular at wide receiver. Leading pass catcher Daverrick Jenkins is probably the biggest name who has moved on, but Adrian Harris, who caught 10 touchdown passes last season, is also a significant loss.
Defensively, the Bulls’ most significant losses come in the secondary, with names such as Jamari Sharpe, Damion Williams, Jael Culler, Daniel Marsh, and Anjuluis Minor all having moved on. Elsewhere on the Miami Northwestern defense, Clayvon Leader, Marquis Jones, and Prentiss Stovall are gone from the front seven.
Who’s Back
The Miami Northwestern offense should again be a massive strength for the Bulls in 2022. That group is led by one of the state’s top quarterbacks in Taron Dickens, a rising senior who threw for 3,743 yards and 42 touchdowns a year ago. Dickens will also play a key role in the running game alongside the returning trio of Jamari Ford, King Davis, and Marlin Cochran. Andy Jean returns to lead the Bulls’ receiver corps, which also added transfer Adam Moore.
The Bulls’ secondary should be a strength again in 2022, as Nazir Ward returns and is joined by transfer Jamari Howard. Leading the front seven will be edge rusher Toddrick Brewton, while others such as Eddie Byrd, Felix Ward, Kareem Maycock, Ethan Augustin, Jaizaih Lugo, and Matthew Williams could all play key roles.
What to Expect
After reaching the Class 6A state semifinals a year ago, Miami Northwestern returns a notable amount of production, especially on offense. Miami Northwestern should be one of the best offensive teams in the state this season and is led by a quarterback who is arguably the favorite to lead Florida in passing.
Miami Northwestern should be among the top teams in a loaded 2M-Region 4, and should return to the playoffs again this season, likely reaching at least a regional semifinal.
Prediction
Miami Northwestern will win at least eight games in 2022, reaching at least a regional semifinal.
