McIntosh County Academy Soccer Player Madi McMahan Voted ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to McIntosh County Academy’s Madi McMahan, who is the ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month. She was one of four top performing athletes considered for the award, and she received the most votes to win.

McMahan, a junior at McIntosh County Academy, plays the striker position on the pitch for her Buccaneer soccer team. McMahan led her team to a 13-3 overall record to finish the regular season, with a 7-3 region record and tied for the #2 seed heading into the playoffs.

She leads her team with 41 goals and 87 points. She also added five assists this season. She also led her team last season with 24 goals, which set the school record at that time for most goals in a season.

Now, a year later, she has almost doubled that number and set a new school record, and there are still more games to play. Her coach, Jamey McMahan, also happens to be her father. He talks about her love for soccer and how much time she has devoted to the sport.

“Madi has been playing soccer from day one, since she was six or seven,” said coach McMahan.

He says that Madi not only practices with the team during the season, she works year-round to refine her skills.

“She will go to the high school every day during the summer, just her and her soccer ball, and practice for hours,” said coach McMahan.

He also described McMahan as being one of the most competitive and driven players he’s ever coached, daughter or not.

“I know she is my daughter, but I have never seen anyone work like she does, ever,” said Coach McMahan. “She never gets tired. She just keeps going and going.”

That kind of energy is important to be able to dominate in a sport just as McMahan has done these past two seasons on the pitch at McIntosh County Academy. But that’s not the only sport she plays, not by a long shot.

According to her father, McMahan has lettered in six different sports, and in addition to first establishing the school record then breaking it for goals scored in a season in soccer, she also holds the McIntosh County Academy record for the first female to score a point for the Buccaneers football team. That’s right. McMahan is the extra point kicker for the Buccaneers.

She also plays flag football and basketball, and she was the cross country region champ last year. As a member of the track team, Madi McMahan was the region champion in the 800M event and qualified for the state meet in the 1600M and 3200M. Despite being able to play practically every sport, it’s soccer that McMahan prefers to concentrate on and look toward playing after high school.

“A few colleges have inquired about Madi, but with her being just a junior, we won’t hear much until next year when she becomes a senior,” said Coach McMahan.

Congratulations to McIntosh County Academy junior soccer striker Madi McMahan, the ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month!
