Lee County Multisport Standout Kason Hooks Named Georgia Male Athlete of the Month

Lee County High School Football Player, Track Athlete Kason Hooks Voted ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Month for March 2023

Congratulations to Lee County High School senior Kason Hooks, who has been selected as the March 2023 ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Month, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance. Hooks was one of four Georgia high school student-athletes nominated for the award. Our readers cast their votes for their favorite nominee, and in the end, Hooks received the most votes to earn Athlete of the Month honors.

Hooks was nominated for his performance as a track athlete so far this season, but he also has been recognized for his outstanding abilities as a defensive back on the Lee County high football team. He was a First Team All-Region selection last season. He will attend West Point and play football for Army following his high school graduation.

As for his track exploits, Hooks participates in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. One of the primary reasons Hooks received the nomination for Athlete of the Month was his performance in the Larry Clark Track and Field Invitational at Bainbridge High School. Hooks was named the Top Male Performer in that event, and the results speak for themselves:

  • He swept four separate events.
  • He blew away the field of 31 participants in the boys 100-meter dash with a first-place finish and mark of 10.83 seconds.
  • He captured the top spot in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42 seconds.
  • He dominated the boys 200-meter dash, finishing first in the field of 34 sprinters with a time of 22.38 seconds.
  • He took the top spot in the in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.69 seconds.

Lee County track coach Condre Payne said Hooks is the kind of athlete who doesn’t say a lot, instead letting his performance do the talking.

“Kason is a confident but quiet and focused athlete,” Payne said. “He has an inner desire to succeed.”

Lee County athletic director Hank Wright had some similar words to describe the Trojans multisport student-athlete.

“Kason is quiet, focused, and a loyal leader,” Wright said. “He has been a great student for us here at Lee County High School, and we will miss his leadership in the building, on our football team, and on our track team.”

Trojans head football coach Dean Fabrizio summed up his thoughts on the standout defensive back by saying, “Kason is the epitome of a true student-athlete.”

Hooks told ITG Next that it was an honor to be recognized as the Athlete of the Month.

“It means a great deal to be named Athlete of the Month, especially knowing how much time my coaches and I spent putting in the hard work to earn this recognition,” Hooks said.

ITG Next and Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance wish Kason Hooks the best of luck for the rest of his track season at Lee County High School before he heads to West Point.
