Lee County Head Football Coach Dean Fabrizio Expected to Return This Week

Dean Fabrizio, the Lee County football coach who was placed on administrative leave after being arrested for driving under the influence two weeks ago, is set to return to his normal coaching duties at Lee County High School this week, according to sources close to the program.

While neither the school nor Fabrizio have yet to make any official announcement regarding his return, those close to the school and the Trojans football program are anticipating his return this week since his absence began two weeks ago.

Following the incident which occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 28 at approximately 1 a.m., Fabrizio released a statement that said, in part, “Due to mistakes that have been made on my behalf, as well as some personal issues that I need to attend to, I have been placed on a leave of absence as head football coach at Lee County High School for the immediate future.”

Lee County Schools also released a statement of its own regarding Fabrizio following the incident, which said, “At this time, that employee has been placed on administrative leave while the district reviews the situation and conducts an investigation.”

There have been no further statements from Lee County Schools regarding Fabrizio.

The Lee County Touchdown Club did issue a statement of its own showing support for the coach. It read, in part: “We recognize that he will be taking a temporary leave to attend to personal issues, which are entirely unrelated to his professional duties or interactions with students. We wholeheartedly support our coach, having witnessed his unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of players throughout his 17 years at Lee. As he navigates these personal challenges, he deserves our compassion, prayers and support of the Lee County faithful.”

Dean Fabrizio took over the Lee County football program in 2009, leading the Trojans to 10 region titles and state championships in 2017 and 2018.

His overall record as head coach at Lee County is 150-52.
