Roswell Flag Football Player Katie Northenor Voted ITG Next 2021-22 Georgia Female Athlete of the Year

The ITG Next 2021-22 Georgia Female Athlete of the Year is Roswell rising senior Katie Northenor. She received the most votes of our four candidates who were presented as this year’s nominees for the award.

The other nominees for 2022 Georgia Female Athlete of the Year were Maddie McMahon from McIntosh County Academy, Woodward Academy basketball standout Sydney Bowles and Lowndes senior sprinter Kaniya Johnson. ITG Next congratulates all of these outstanding student athletes for their accomplishments and contributions to their respective teams this past year!

Northenor, a member of the Roswell flag football, soccer and track teams, has contributed in many ways not only this past season, but throughout her entire high school career as a Hornet. She also played basketball for the Roswell girls basketball team during her freshman and sophomore seasons, but decided to devote her efforts to only three sports beginning this past season.

Northenor was born in Roswell and has called the North Atlanta community home for her entire 17 years. Of the three sports she focuses on now, Northenor says she enjoys flag football the most. Her love for the game certainly shines through on the field.

Playing quarterback in Roswell’s first season fielding a flag football team, Northenor was a major component in the Hornets capturing the Area (Region) Championship and had a big hand in leading them to a win in their first-round playoff game. In a 27-0 shutout win over Paulding County, Northenor had five carries for 173 yards and three rushing TDs, while adding a passing TD.

Hornets head coach Emily Hoza praised Northenor for her contributions to the team’s success.

“Katie has great footwork, and she’s a speedy player,” said Hoza.

Northenor will undoubtedly be counted on more than ever when she returns to the football team for her senior season.

As a member of the Roswell track team, Northenor competes in the 100m and 200m, as well as the long jump. She was a big reason for the Roswell Track and Field team winning its first overall team region 5-AAAAAAA championship in 20 years, and was a member on the Hornets 4×400 and 4×100 region title teams. Northenor also qualified for the sectionals in the long jump with a distance of 15-5, and she posted a 12.94 time in the 100m.

Northenor’s other sport is soccer, where she’s dominant on the pitch. She was a First Team All Region selection for her play in her sophomore season, and again selected as a First Team All Region performer for this past season. She helped lead her Hornet soccer squad to the Class 7A Final Four last season.

Northenor said soccer was her first sport: “I started playing soccer at age 3 for my church soccer league.”

Now, as she enters her senior season, we will enjoy watching her continue to compete in soccer, flag football and track.

Congratulations once again to Katie Northenor, the ITG Next 2021-22 Georgia Female Athlete of the Year!
