JD Davison: The Next Great From Alabama

JD Davison: The Next Great From Alabama

Every couple of years a player comes along, and you instantly know. You watch one game, and you know. You see their highlight film, and you know. You simply know that they are going to be special. They have all the athletic tools, they are dominating the competition, they are flat out going to be a superstar. “They” is JD Davison, and he is the next basketball superstar to come out of Alabama.

Odds are if you’ve seen a video of a high school player dunking in the past two seasons, it’s probably JD Davison. Davison has turned into a must-see high school prospect playing at Calhoun High School where he can do it all on the court for the Tigers. Davison moved more into the national spotlight during his junior season with viral videos of his dunks and big shots, but he has been the best player in the state for the last two years.

During his junior season, Davison took his game to the next level; he averaged 30.4 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists as a junior while leading Calhoun to the 2A state championship. And, yes, he did hit a step-back 3-pointer to win that game. Davison showed he was made for the big stage by racking up 34 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals in the championship game and being named MVP of the tournament. Davison went on to become only the fifth junior to win the Alabama Mr. Basketball award.

JD Davison draws many comparisons to multi-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook. He is an explosive point guard who can get to the rim and score with ease, is an explosive dunker, has a high basketball IQ, can knock down perimeter shots, and is just all over the court when he is in the game. While Westbrook has been in the NBA for a decade, Davison is just scratching the surface.

Davison is rated as a five-star PG and as the No. 9 prospect in the Class of 2021. Davison recently committed to Alabama to play basketball, where he is the third highest rated recruit in Alabama school history.

Calhoun has already tipped off this season, and to the surprise of no one, Davison is putting up crazy stats. He is averaging 50 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and four steals through his first couple of games this season and is the favorite to win the Alabama Mr. Basketball award for the second consecutive year, potentially joining the likes of John Petty and Trendon Watford.

JD Davison is a special player whom we will be seeing on our televisions for many years to come. Sit back and watch the development of Davison because he has the potential to be the best basketball player to ever come from the state of Alabama.
