ITG-SG Top 5’s of Week 3

Week 3 Top 5s
TOP 5 PLAYERS:

While the Valdosta Wildcats defense has been suspect in the beginning of this 2015 season, their passing game has not told the same story. Seth Shuman, senior QB for the Cats, continues to impress with a powerful arm, command of the offense, and leadership abilities. This week, he and WR Tyson Jamarcus connect for 4 TDs on his way to a 300 yard performance.

Fitzgerald won the ground-game battle against Irwin, largely in part to yet another stand-out performance from QB James Graham. Having rushed for over 100 yards in their first 2 games, this one was no exception. Compiling 188 yards and 2 TDs on the ground and 5 completions for 91 yards, Graham continues to lead Fitzgerald’s offensive efforts.

On the other side of that game, D.J. Pollard’s play on both sides of the ball were notable, but fell short. He accrued almost 200 yards rushing on offense, as well as recording 12 tackles on defense. Despite the loss, Pollard and the Indians are looking to recover with an off week and then make a statement with a win over a dominant Clinch team.

Finally, Bainbridge’s Tyler Story set a school record with 10 receptions and 224 yards receiving. Bainbridge is off to a 2-0 start, and with performances like this one from Story, they could have continued success through their approaching region schedule.

TOP 5 TEAMS:

Colquitt and Lee coasted this past weekend against lesser opponents in Crisp and Worth, respectively. With Clinch on an off week and Fitzgerald beating out Irwin in a running duel, our top 4 remain unchanged. However, our previous #5, Valwood, suffered a big loss against North Florida Christian. Although this early, out-of-state, non-conference loss doesn’t reflect too negatively on the likelihood of their future success, it does merit allowing fellow GISA-AAA Brookwood to replace them. With a 3-0 start, Brookwood will likely run the table up until region play, where the will have to face tests against the likes of Valwood, Tiftarea, and Terrell.
