Going for the Threepeat

University Christian is coming off two of the best seasons a team could hope for. After winning back to back state titles, there is only one question on everyone’s mind. Can they do it again?

David Penland III leads the University Christians into another season where nothing but the best will be accepted.

“Last season, winning the state title back to back is a big goal for us,” he said. “Didn’t know we could pull it off from the beginning. Things shaped out and guys just came together and worked together. Our defense stood tall and we really set the standard on how we want our [defense] to look. Offense will always be there we wanted to set a standard for how our defense wanted to be.”

The powerhouse Christian offense will be led by returning players Oak Stipe, a 6’ 5” 280lb offensive tackle and 6’ 170lb quarterback Clay Boyde.

This winning tradition isn’t something that is new for Penland and his family. His father, David Penland II, has been a part of every title the school has won with the exception of one.

The potential threepeat isn’t going to come without a fight. Providence is always a game that the Christians look forward too. As well as going to South Carolina to play their 2A champion.

“There is a lot of UC blood on this field,” Penland said. “We are a family.”

The family will need to come together and muster all the grit that they have if they want to win a third title in a row. We believe that the University Christians have what it takes.
