The Valwood Valiants take to the road this week for a GISA Playoff matchup with the Region 4-AAA Champions, the Westfield Hornets, in Perry on Friday.

While the Valiants entered the postseason as the second seed from Region 3-AAA, their placement hasn’t diminished their drive.  Their last contest, fueled by two game-altering interceptions from senior linebacker Gahnon Byington, ended in victory on the road over the Region 2-AAA Champion Pinewood Christian Patriots.  The Patriots were undefeated coming into their matchup with Valwood; their record did nothing to intimidate the Valiants.

Westfield holds a slight edge in the series with the Valiants, as Valwood has gone 7-8-1 against the Hornets; at the moment, however, the most important Valwood win of the series came on August 28.  Their 55-28 blowout win at Marvin Arrington Stadium was the only negative mark on Westfield’s 2015 record.

The Hornets are currently riding a 10-game win streak, but if recent history can repeat itself, the Valiants will once again leave a lasting blemish on Westfield’s year.

The winner of Friday’s game will move on to the GISA Class AAA State Championship Game to face either the John Milledge Academy Trojans (Milledgeville, Ga.) or the Deerfield-Windsor Knights (Albany, Ga.) on Saturday, November 28.
