Georgia High School Football Rankings: Week 2

Week 1 saw eight of the top 10 teams in our 7A-4A Georgia high school football rankings come out winners, with Lowndes and North Cobb dropping tough games against very good opponents.

The biggest surprises were Hughes losing to Newton and perhaps Allatoona falling against Harrison. The 7A defending state champs, Grayson, lost in their season opener at home against a solid Creekside team, although we knew Grayson might be down a little with so many losses to graduation.

Speaking of Creekside, they move into our top 25 along with Woodward Academy, who also came up with a huge victory defeating ELCA to start the season.

A crazy first week saw seven of the top 10 teams in our 3A-1A Georgia high school football rankings drop their season opener, while two did not play. That leaves Oconee County as the lone top-10 team with a victory in Week 1.

The biggest surprise in the opening week of football was Greater Atlanta Christian losing 76-7 to Lipscomb (TN). Brooks County’s loss to Thomasville was a surprise to many, although we know rivalry games can always give us exciting and unpredictable results.

You will see several teams moving around in our top 25, but don’t worry if your team moved down; there’s still a lot of football left to play. We do welcome in three entrants to our top 25 – with Calvary Day, Wesleyan, and Westminster making their debuts – and say goodbye (at least for now) to Washington-Wilkes, Jefferson County, and Rockmart.
