Georgia High School Football Games to Watch in 2021

GA HSFB Games to Watch in 2021

In the Georgia high school football realm, May is relatively insignificant. Sure, there may be the occasional transfer or coaching hire, but otherwise that time of year is calm. However, this year, the GHSA delayed the release of all 2021 football schedules to late April, keeping us all on edge. Those schedules can be found at 2021-2022 GHSA Football Schedule | GHSA.net. After looking over every schedule, here is one game from each classification that everyone should keep an eye on. These may not be the best games, but they definitely shouldn’t be overlooked.

Fellowship Christian at Trinity Christian (A-Private) – This is just the second game of the year for Fellowship and the third for Trinity. The Lions unexpectedly made it all the way to the Class A-Private championship last year, knocking off undefeated Fellowship in the quarterfinals. Fellowship won’t underestimate its’ opponent this time around.

Fitzgerald at Irwin County (A-Public) – Fitzgerald was the runner-up in Class 2A last year, and Irwin was the champion of Class A-Public. Both teams have proven capable of lighting up the scoreboard, but didn’t do much of it in their 2020 matchup, which Fitzgerald won 21-6. Expect this game to be much closer, and much more exciting.

Rabun County at Eagle’s Landing Christian (2A) – The difference in styles of play headline this battle, as Rabun County leans heavily on Gunner Stockton’s passing abilities while Class A-Private power ELCA focus more on the ground attack. It is uncommon to see such a matchup, but we should definitely relish it when the opportunity arises.

Central-Phenix City (AL) at Peach County (3A) – There’s always much to love when Georgia is represented against other states, but it’s even better when it is between two prominent programs in their respective states. Both schools are just a year or two removed from state championship game appearances, and this makes for an exciting border-states matchup.

Marist at Blessed Trinity (4A) – Marist is 1-4 all-time against the now Class 5A Titans from Blessed Trinity. It will look for revenge after losing to Blessed Trinity in the 2017 state championship game. Watch out for the Titans strong rushing attack behind Justice Haynes.

Creekside at Cartersville (5A) – Creekside has often been overlooked, but it will have a chance to put itself on the statewide map if it can beat the runner-up in 5A. Creekside can capitalize on this early-season matchup against a Cartersville squad that must adapt to a new QB.

Chaminade-Madonna (FL) at Buford (6A) – The Lions from Hollywood, FL, need a quality win on their resume, and Buford is a prime opportunity on the road. The defending Georgia Class 6A champions will definitely have something to say about that, with several talented stars like Jake Pope, Isaiah Bond and CJ Clinkscales.

Milton at North Cobb (7A) – This is outright the game of the year in 7A. There is no shortage of talent on both sides, and coaching has proven to be a key factor in past seasons of success. If there’s one game to not miss all year, it’s this one.
