Another week, another victory.

The Colquitt County Packers lost the coin toss last week and had to travel to Cumming, Georgia to face the South Forsyth War Eagles in a battle of region champions.  In the end, the road made no difference, and the Packers are one step closer to repeating as GHSA Class AAAAAA State Champions after a come-from-behind 49-31 win in the quarterfinals.

After a coin toss for the second consecutive week, the Packers will face the road once more, as they must now travel to Hoschton to square off against the Region 7-AAAAAA Champion Mill Creek Hawks.

Again, the competition remains steep for the defending champions; the Hawks come into Friday’s matchup undefeated on the season (13-0) and boast a 25-point win margin at home.  Their 2015 home stand also includes four shutouts; in their most recent contest, the Hawks blanked the 2014 runner-up Archer Tigers (Lawrenceville, Ga.).

With less than 10 minutes remaining in Friday’s game, the Packers were down 31-28; however, in that span, South Forsyth would throw four crucial interceptions, and Colquitt County took full advantage.  The Packers finished the game with 21 unanswered points (including a 76-yard interception by Akivie Bailey that was returned for a score) to seal the win and move on to the semifinals.

The Hawks come into Friday’s contest after a 23-0 shutout of the Archer Tigers in what was previously expected to be one of the top quarterfinal matchups in the playoffs.  Just like the Packers, Mill Creek’s defense led the way to victory, as they forced three turnovers and kept Archer pinned deep in their own territory for most of the night.  The win puts Mill Creek in the semifinals for the first time in the school’s history.

The winner of Friday’s game will move on to the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Championship to square off against either the Roswell Hornets (Roswell, Ga.) or the Grayson Rams (Loganville, Ga.) on December 12.  A win for the Packers would extend their win streak to 29 games (dating back to last season) and keep their chances of back-to-back state titles alive.
