Sneads football and basketball player Jason Patterson has been voted the 2022-23 ITG Next Florida Male Athlete of the Year, receiving 41.47% of the possible votes over a list of three additional finalists.
Alongside Patterson, the other finalists were Stoneman Douglas baseball player Christian Rodriguez, True North Classical Academy football/basketball player Jasen Lopez, and University Christian football/basketball player Orel Gray.
Beginning with a look at the football season Patterson enjoyed for Sneads last fall, you don’t have to search far to see the impact the junior had toward the Pirates’ impressive campaign. They recorded an 11-1 record, including an undefeated regular season, and a Class 1R regional final appearance.
Headlining a Sneads offense that averaged 42.5 PPG, Patterson, a three-star football prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite, ranked among the state’s leading rushers last season, compiling 2,721 yards and 35 touchdowns on 206 attempts. Patterson also caught 3 passes for 31 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he completed 3 of 14 passes for 41 yards.
In addition to his offensive contributions, Patterson also had 6 tackles and made an impact on special teams.
At the conclusion of the fall, Patterson carried over his success onto the hardwood by helping lead the Pirates to a 19-8 overall record and a Class 1A regional semifinal appearance.
In 23 games, Patterson averaged 12.2 PPG, 8.1 RPG, and 3.1 APG, leading the team in multiple statistical categories. He posted seven double-doubles, arguably the biggest of which came in a 57-48 loss to Bozeman on February 8, when he flirted with a triple-double at 16 points, 20 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Patterson has established himself as one of the state’s top multi-sport athletes entering his senior year. Congratulations again to this Sneads standout, the ITG Next Florida 2022-23 Male Athlete of the Year.
