Florida Male Athlete of the Month: Wiregrass Ranch QB Luke Knight

For his on-field play in October, Wiregrass Ranch senior quarterback Luke Knight has been voted the ITG Next Florida Male Athlete of the Month over three additional finalists: Armwood running back Girard Pringle, Wakulla quarterback Haden Klees, and Ocoee edge rusher Michael McClenton.

One of the state’s top passers this season, Knight, an Army commit, helped lead Wiregrass Ranch to a 3-1 record in October, when the Bulls offense averaged 42.8 PPG.

Knight’s stellar month began with a 57-27 win over River Ridge on October 6, when he completed 22-of-32 passes for 381 yards and 3 touchdowns, and rushed for 6 yards and another score.

Following that performance was another impressive showing in a 49-10 win over Sunlake, as Knight completed 11-of-16 passes for 371 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also rushed for a TD in that contest.

In the Bulls’ 30-21 win over Booker on October 20, Knight completed 24-of-38 passes for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns. He rushed for a touchdown for the third consecutive game and finished with 19 yards on 7 attempts.

Wiregrass Ranch lost its last game of the month, falling to Land O’Lakes 37-35 on October 27, but Knight still was impressive, completing 21-of-32 passes for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns.

In those four games combined, Knight completed 78-of-118 passes for 1,415 yards and a 14:2 TD:INT, and he rushed for 21 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14 attempts. Also included in that stretch was his second 400-yard performance of the season.

Knight’s level of play was a constant throughout the 2023 season as he helped lead Wiregrass Ranch to a 9-3 overall record and a regional semifinal appearance. In 12 games he completed 63.9% of his passes (246-of-385) for 3,872 yards and a 43:7 TD:INT ratio, and he eclipsed 300 yards passing in seven of those games. He also made a significant impact on the ground, accounting for 169 yards and 9 touchdowns on 53 attempts. His season-high 419-yard, 8-touchdown performance in a 57-33 win over Harmony put the finishing touches on a memorable high school career.

Congratulations on a special season, including an extraordinary month of October, to Wiregrass Ranch quarterback Luke Knight, the ITG Next Florida November 2023 Male Athlete of the Month.
