Fletcher, Bain Among Florida High School Football Week 1 Standouts

Kickoff of the 2022 high school football season in Florida did not disappoint when it came to memorable on-field performances in Week 1. Here’s a look at some of the standouts in the Sunshine State.

Mark Fletcher – American Heritage

Fletcher, one of the Sunshine State’s top running backs, had a massive day for American Heritage as the Patriots defeated Los Alamitos (CA) 56-27. The four-star Ohio State commit led the way among Florida high school Week 1 standouts, rushing for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries.

Rueben Bain – Miami Central

Bain’s defensive performance made him another one of the Florida high school Week 1 standouts. A top Sunshine State pass rusher, Bain played a key role for the Miami Central defense as the Rockets upset IMG Academy 20-14. The four-star collected 3 sacks and generally caused havoc in the trenches last Friday night.

Collin Hurst – Western

After a phenomenal junior season in which he ranked among the state’s leaders in passing, Hurst began his senior campaign on a strong note during as Western defeated John’s Creek (GA) 33-14. The senior quarterback completed 18-of-26 passes for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns at the helm of the Wildcats offense, while also rushing for 45 yards on 3 attempts.

Tony Colebrook – John Carroll Catholic

John Carroll Catholic picked up a big Week 1 win over Benjamin 24-21, and the junior was a big reason for that success. Colebrook carried the ball 29 times for 217 yards and a touchdown, and made a catch for 6 yards.

Cameron Torres – Westland Hialeah

The Wildcats picked up a big road win last Friday night, defeating Hallandale 42-2. Torres enjoyed a big game on the ground for the Wildcats, rushing for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns on 7 carries.

Max Lawrence – Westland Hialeah

Speaking of the Wildcats, Lawrence is another  that deserves mentioning. The senior quarterback completed 15-of-22 passes for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns in Westland Hialeah’s win over Hallandale.
