Predictions for the First Round of the FHSAA Class 8A Football Playoffs

After an action-packed regular season, it’s now officially playoff time in the state of Florida. To open up the postseason, let’s take a look at the brackets in the FHSAA Class 8A football playoffs and make some predictions for the first round matchups set to be played this week.

Region 1 Predictions

  • Seminole 38, Winter Park 14
  • Lake Mary 35, Timber Creek 28
  • Bartram Trail 24, Lake Brantley 14
  • Apopka 28, Creekside 14

The Region 1 section of the bracket features a few intriguing first-round matchups headlined by Timber Creek hosting Lake Mary. While that is the most likely first-round upset from this group, don’t necessarily rule out Lake Brantley traveling to Bartram Trail.

Region 2 Predictions

  • Palm Beach Central 42, Centennial 14
  • Vero Beach 24, Forest Hill 17
  • Treasure Coast 35, Palm Beach Gardens 14
  • Boone 28, Wellington 17

The Region 2 section, similar to Region 1, features a prime upset opportunity when Vero Beach travels to face Forest Hill. Boone hosting Wellington should be a close contest, and Palm Beach Central and Treasure Coast will likely win big in the first round.

Region 3 Predictions

  • Venice 45, Plant City 14
  • Riverview Sarasota 35, Steinbrenner 10
  • West Orange 42, Durant 14
  • Newsome 24, Osceola 21

As is the previous theme with the 4/5 matchups in the Class 8A first round, Riverview Sarasota is a likely candidate to pick up a win on the road over Steinbrenner. In addition to that matchup, expect Newsome hosting Osceola to be one of the best overall games of the Class 8A first round.

Region 4 Predictions

  • Western 49, Stoneman Douglas 10
  • Miami Columbus 28, Dr. Krop 7
  • Miami Palmetto 30, Coral Gables 10
  • Deerfield Beach 28, Boca Raton 10

Once again, the 4/5 matchup presents another prime opportunity for the road team, as Miami Columbus travels to Dr. Krop. When looking at Region 4, we could see four convincing first-round road victories to set up what will be a can’t-miss second round.
