As we enter the second half of the 2023 Alabama high school football season, several upcoming matchups have caught our eye. Here’s a look at some of those can’t-miss October and early-November contests.
Hewitt-Trussville vs. Thompson – October 6
Two of the top teams in Class 7A-Region 3 will meet on October 6, with host team Hewitt-Trussville looking for its first win in the series since 2019. The Huskies came close to a victory last season, falling on the road by a final score of 14-12.
Opelika vs. Auburn – October 6
Opelika will host this Class 7A-Region 2 rivalry matchup. Auburn has owned the series recently, with the last win for the Bulldogs coming back in 2016.
Vestavia Hills vs. Hewitt-Trussville – October 13
In another Class 7A-Region 3 clash, Hewitt-Trussville will travel to Vestavia Hills, and the outcome could potentially have a big impact on playoff seeding. The Huskies have won the last three over the Rebels, including a 45-37 home victory a year ago.
Mountain Brook vs. Parker – October 13
Mountain Brook will host Parker in this prominent Birmingham-area, Class 6A-Region 5 showdown. The Spartans won last season’s matchup on the road, 35-6.
Auburn vs. Central-Phenix City – October 20
Two of the state’s top teams, Auburn and Central-Phenix City, will meet on October 20 for the latest edition of their Class 7A-Region 2 rivalry matchup. The Tigers and Red Devils have met twice in each of the last four seasons, with the second of the two coming in the state playoffs.
Oxford vs. Clay-Chalkville – October 20
What could be an important matchup in Class 6A-Region 6 will take place October 20 when Oxford hosts Clay-Chalkville. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Cougars by a final score of 25-20 a year ago.
Hoover vs. Thompson – October 27
This Class 7A-Region 3 matchup is always a can’t-miss Alabama high school football game. The teams split their two meetings a year ago.
Montgomery Catholic vs. Andalusia – October 27
Two of the top teams in Class 4A will clash October 27 when Montgomery Catholic hosts Andalusia in a 4A-Region 2 showdown. The Knights defeated Andalusia in the regular season a year ago, then the Bulldogs handing them their lone loss of the season in the state semifinals, 29-26.
Gulf Shores vs. Vigor – October 27
In a Class 5A-Region 1 showdown, Gulf Shores and Vigor will collide on October 27. The Dolphins won last season’s meeting by a final score of 37-21.
Vestavia Hills vs. Helena – November 2
The final entry in our list of can’t-miss upcoming Alabama high school football games is the November 2 meeting between host Vestavia Hills of Class 7A and 6A’s Helena. Vestavia Hills won last season’s contest 44-24.
