Colquitt Packers Repeat as 6A Georgia State Champs

Mission accomplished! The Colquitt County Packers completed their record-breaking campaign with a repeat title and are a perfect 30-0 over the last two seasons.

The Packers were quickly in a duel with the Roswell Hornets as the opposition scored an 81 yard touchdown on just the second play of the game. Kiel Pollard swiftly answered with a couple of short touchdown rushes to give Colquitt a 14-7 lead. Roswell tacked on another field goal late in the first quarter to cut the lead to four, but after that it was all Packers. In the final 3 quarters of play the defense led by Dee Walker and Ty Phillips played lights out as Colquitt outscored Roswell 16-3.

Despite being sick throughout the week, Chase Parrish was able to throw his 40th touchdown of the season to Ty Lee. The senior quarterback finished his career in grand fashion; finishing as the program’s all-time leading passer to go along with 70 touchdowns, and winning all 30 of his starts. Finally, Baby Lou Martinez knocked through three field goals, and with the last he became the all-time field goal leader in the state with 34 made.

Coach Rush Prospt led the undisputed number one team in the state to a tremendous season in route to capturing his 7th career state title. The Packers’ offense outdid themselves again this year as they eclipsed the 700 point mark becoming just the third team to ever do so. They also broke their record from a year ago as the highest scoring team in GHSA’s highest class of competition.

There will be a full spread and story on the State Champion Colquitt County Packers in our January ITG Magazine, but until then, enjoy these articles from another dream season and get your copy of “Finished Business”.
