We tell you everything you need to know about the 2025 Coffee High School football team in this preview, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Trojans this season.
2024 Season Stats
- Overall Record:11-3
- Points Scored: 444
- Points Allowed: 267
Key Roster Losses
Among the top players Coffee will miss is running back Tyrese Woodgett, who set the Georgia high school football record last year for most rushing yards in a single game. Woodgett ran around and through the Sequoyah defense last year in the Trojans’ quarterfinal playoff game. He ended his senior season with 2,340 yards rushing and 27 TDs. Woodgett’s talent in special teams will also be missed, as he returned 14 kickoffs for 458 yards. He signed with Georgia Military College.
Another Tyrese will be missed in the Coffee backfield with the graduation of Tyrese Hansley. He rushed for 1,308 yards and 18 TDs over his high school career.
Senior quarterback Bray Coe will not return after throwing for 856 yards and 11 TDs in 2024.
The defense was hurt by graduation as key players Chris Reed, Mykevius Smith, and Cupris Morgan, all linebackers, won’t be back.
Key Players Returning
Coffee welcomes back KJ DeBruce to the offensive backfield to fill the void left by the loss of Woodgett.
The Trojans also welcome back quarterback Trey Ross, who missed the 2024 season due to personal reasons, according to Coffee head coach Mike Coe.
Ross will take snaps from freshman center Markez Curry, who will become just the second ninth-grader ever to start for Coe at Coffee. Curry is 6 feet, 3 inches tall; weighs 275 pounds; and was an Under Armour Middle School All-American.
Two-way standout Tre Smith will man the cornerback spot along with returning to his familiar wide receiver position.
Coe is excited about sophomore running back Bobby Reynolds II, who will see plenty of time in the backfield this year.
“He will play a bunch,” Coe said. “He’s gonna be the guy.”
What to Expect From the Coffee Trojans in 2025
Coe is kicking off his fourth season at Coffee, and he admitted this may be his youngest team yet since arriving in Douglas, Georgia.
“Our 2025 Trojans will come into the 2025 season a bit inexperienced, but we’ve had a great offseason so far,” Coe said.
Coffee will rely on several of the younger guys this year, with just eight of last season’s 22 starters returning.
Coe said the 2025 offensive backfield will likely become a running game by committee, with DeBruce and several younger players expected to see playing time.
Speaking of the younger guys, Coe said he is excited to see what the underclassmen can do at the varsity level based on their success so far.
“Our future is promising as the 2027 and 2028 classes lost a combined two games in middle school and the 2029 and 2030 classes yet to lose a middle school game,” Coe said.
2025 Season Prediction
Coe will find a way to have his Trojans there at the end once again. I predict a 10-3 overall record for Coffee in 2025.
