It is finally upon us: Region play opens in a big way this weekend.  On Friday, October 2, we will be treated to the “Clash of the ‘Cats” as Wildcats of Camden County High School (Kingsland, Ga.) travel two hours west, where they will have a Valdosta Wildcats team ready for battle.

Both teams took last week off, as did every other team in Region 1-AAAAAA (with the exception of Lee County, who defeated Mitchell County 56-0).  Going into the week of rest, Valdosta made their fans proud as they handed Veterans High School (Kathleen, Ga.) a huge 56-7 defeat to move to 4-1 on the year.  In similar fashion, Camden pulled out all the stops as they recorded a 42-0 shutout of the Wayne County Yellow Jackets (Jesup, Ga.) to improve to 5-0.

Signal-caller Seth Shuman is having an outstanding season under center for the Bazemore-Hyder troops.  Through the first five games of the year, his numbers have him sitting atop the quarterbacks in the region, and near the top in the state.  Thus far, he has completed 74 of 110 attempts and amassed over 1,200 passing yards.  More impressive, though, are his 14 touchdowns in relation to zero interceptions.  Helping in the process are Jamarcus Tyson (5), Wesley Veal (4), and Jontae Baker (2), who have accounted for 11 of Shuman’s scoring completions.

For the Wildcats out of Kingsland, the offensive output has been on display as well; however, their ground game has been the main focus.  Senior Harrison Poole has already collected 334 rushing yards on the season, and teammates Brandon McMaster (315), Mikey Packard (269), and Kevon Brewington (169) have already given Camden four dangerous pieces on offense.

Both teams are making their presence felt on the defensive side of the ball.  Camden is currently holding their opposition to 13.8 points per game; Valdosta is keeping their opponents at 16.4.  Both teams also have one shutout to their credit on the year; Camden blanked Wayne County in Week Five, while Valdosta held Thomasville High scoreless in Week Four (42-0).

This game is sure to be exciting, as both teams know how to put points on the board in tremendous bursts.  Be sure to download and follow the action every Friday night through the Scorestream app!
