In a league dominated by male referees, the NBA has taken steps to bring in female referees. Lauren Holtkamp is the third female referee to be hired by the NBA. Holtkamp — a Jefferson City, Missouri, native — is changing the scope of NBA refereeing. Succeeding former female NBA referees Dee Kantner and Violet Palmer, Holtkamp is feeling no pressure when it comes to refereeing a game played by males.
