Cam Miller Named 2022 Northeast Florida Football Player of the Year

Cam Miller has been named the ITG Next 2022 Northeast Florida Football Player of the Year, presented by Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Baptist Health, and the Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute.

Miller, a senior cornerback at Trinity Christian Academy (TCA), will be joining the Penn State Nittany Lions upon graduation. He announced his commitment to Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class on July 26, 2021.

“I am very excited,” he said. “I love the atmosphere up there (at Penn State). You will see us in the national championship soon.”

With offers from University of Miami, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and more, Miller ultimately signed with the Nittany Lions. He was particularly fond of the football program’s coach and staff. He is currently playing under coach Verlon Dorminey, who was recently named the ITG Next Northeast Florida Fall Coach of the Year. Miller has been thriving ever since making the switch from Fernandina Beach High School.

“My skills have improved a lot (at TCA), competing day in and day out, pushing myself every day,” said Miller. “It has (allowed me to) improve a lot.”

The team recently won yet another state championship late last year. After defeating Hialeah Champagnat Catholic school at 41-23, the team took home their ninth FHSAA football championship.

Miller has been playing for The Conquerors for one season. He transferred as a senior and has produced 751 all-purpose yards and 56 tackles.

Before transferring to TCA for his senior year, Miller led Fernandina to their first-ever playoff victory in 2020. He averaged over 7.2 yards per carry during his first three years of high school.

Miller began playing football as a kid and started taking his craft more seriously at the start of high school. He was playing for Pop Warner at the age of 10 and found his passion in ninth grade. That is when he knew he could go far with his skills. Now recognized as one of the top players in Florida, Jacksonville specifically, Miller stands at six feet tall, 180 pounds as a four-star athlete, ranking as No.33 in the state according to the 247Sports Composite.

“It accounts for all the hard work I put into it (football),” said Miller. “I don’t let all the hype get to me.”

Miller wants to major in business. He also plans to start one of his own if he does not go to the NFL.

“My future goal is to go to the NFL,” said Miller. “If that does not work out, I’d like to open my own business, a gym.”

After playing for just one season at TCA, Miller has made unforgettable bonds with the coaches. He credits his parents for helping him along his journey, along with lots of other people who have inspired him along the way. He advises up-and-coming football players to stay consistent about building their career and skills.

“Word hard. Stay true to your craft. Stay confident,” said Miller.
