Caleb Downs: Alabama Commit Doing It All for Mill Creek

Even before the 2022 high school football season began, it was already well-known that Mill Creek senior Caleb Downs was one of the top players in the nation. Now that we are a few weeks into the 2022 campaign, that assessment hasn’t changed one bit as Downs has continued to solidify his status as the nation’s top safety prospect in the 2023 class.

In helping lead the Hawks to a 3-0 start, Downs has truly done it all. Just look at the numbers he’s posted so far. In the first two games of the season, against Walton and Marietta, respectively, Caleb Downs led the Mill Creek defense with 19 total tackles and 2 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He also made a key impact on offense, rushing for 67 yards and 3 touchdowns on 6 attempts, and catching 10 passes for 102 yards.

Downs is rated the nation’s No. 1 safety in the 2023 class and the No. 1 overall player in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite. The five-star prospect and Alabama commit certainly didn’t earn these eye-opening accolades and ratings overnight – he’s been an impact player at Mill Creek for years.

From his freshman season in 2019 to his junior campaign in 2021, Downs has collected 186 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 6 TFL for Mill Creek. Doing it all in one of Georgia’s top classifications, Caleb Downs clearly warrants the five-star rating, and he hasn’t showed signs of slowing down anytime soon. Look for the stellar play to continue from this dynamic senior.
