Bulldawg to Packer: Hutson Mason

The Colquitt County Packers are on the top of the mountain in the state of Georgia.  After an undefeated 2014 season (15-0) and a GHSA Class AAAAAA State Championship, some may believe that there is nowhere left to go.  The summer of 2015 showed that even the best can get better.

The Packers have added 2009 Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year Hutson Mason to their coaching staff.  After an impressive career at Lassiter High School (Marietta, Ga.), and later the University of Georgia, Mason has been tabbed to be the offensive coordinator of the ninth-grade team at Colquitt County High School.  He will also work with the varsity quarterbacks on game nights.

Mason, a 2010 graduate of Lassiter, set state records for passing yards (4,560) and touchdowns in a season (54) as a senior.  He would later go on to the University of Georgia, where he initially served as backup to starting quarterback Aaron Murray.  After Murray’s college career was ended prematurely due to an ACL injury, Mason stepped in starter and did a tremendous job filling the void.  In only five games played n the 2013 season, he would amass over 2,000 passing yards and a completion percentage of 60.9.  His final season (2014) would prove to be more of the same, as he set a school record for completion percentage in a season (67.87), as well as the best completion percentage in a career (64.98).
