Former Florida High School Swimmer Bobby Finke Makes U.S. Olympic Team

Former Florida high school swimmer Bobby Finke is heading to Tokyo to compete in the Olympics this summer.

This comes after Finke won the men’s 800-meter freestyle final at the U.S. Olympic trials on June 17. Finke was able to come out on top after he covered 16 laps in seven minutes, 48:22 seconds, according to an article in the Tampa Bay Times. He barely beat out runner-up Michael Brinegar, who finished with a time of seven minutes, 49.94 seconds.

Finke is from the St. Petersburg area and went to high school at Countryside High in Clearwater. His high school tenure was quite remarkable, as he was a two-time National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-American, two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-America, and the No.1 swimming recruit out of Florida in the 2018 class, according to Florida Gators.com.

The list of honors goes on for Finke, who is currently a junior swimmer at the University of Florida. It should be exciting to see how this Florida native does come the summer time.
