Key Losses
The biggest losses for the Bulls from last season come on defense and are headlined by the trio of Carson Elsner, Garrett Folken, and Corbin Barnett. All three ranked among Bloomingdale’s leading tacklers. Other key contributors, including La’montrae Banks, Jaeden Tamulonis, Austin Russell, and Jackson Sykes, have to be replaced as well. On offense, undoubtedly the Bulls’ biggest loss comes from running back Brycnn Bennett, who led Bloomingdale in rushing last season, while also a being key factor in the receiving game.
Who’s Back
Bloomingdale’s biggest strength entering the 2022 season could be its offense, a group led by senior quarterback Charles Coney. A candidate to lead the Bulls in both passing and rushing this season, Coney will undoubtedly be a key player, and a majority of his top receivers – Kendall Jones, Charlie O’Brien, and Camren Campbell – are back as well.
Defensively, the Bulls lost some key players, but they also return a few. Arguably none are bigger than Christian Bodnar and Nate Ledford, who likely will rank among Bloomingdale’s leading tacklers, while others such as Marlon Jackson and Mekhi Thomas could also be key names to watch for.
What to Expect
After reaching the state semifinals during the 2020 season, Bloomingdale struggled at times a year ago, resulting in one of the Bulls’ worst records in recent years. They’re due for a bounceback season and are likely the top preseason team in 3M-District 6. The offense should be a strength for Bloomingdale and the defense should be solid once again, despite having to replace some key names.
Prediction
Bloomingdale will win six games and be in playoff contention this season.
