We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Baker County football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 11-3
  • Points Scored: 445
  • Points Allowed: 248

Key Losses

The Wildcats are tasked with replacing multiple key names from last season on both sides of the ball. On offense, the quarterback/wide receiver duo of Noah Ray and Jaymodd Ruise connected for 10 touchdowns and running back Jamarian Baker rushed for almost 1,000 yards and 14 scores.

On defense, a few of Baker County’s leading tacklers from last season have moved on, including Camilo Rollins and Toby Kinghorn, as well as Bryce Kazmierczak, who transferred. Others such as Kaleb Troestler, Ronnie Ellis, De’heaven Clark, Jamil Jones, Carlos Jefferson and Ja’vonta Elliot will have to be replaced, with a majority of those coming in the secondary.

Who’s Back

A key returnee is running back Camron Smith, a rising senior who rushed for 1,339 yards and 15 touchdowns a year ago, while also ranking among the Wildcats’ leaders in receiving. Two more key names return on offense in Ma-Khai Mosley and Davion Dean, both of whom are poised for breakout seasons.

Defensively, rising senior Orlando Holland returns after ranking among the state’s leaders in sacks a year ago, as well as linebacker Avery Spurlock. Defensive lineman Ymonn Gibson is also a key name coming off a strong 2021 season, along with rising sophomore Seth Chestnut.

What to Expect

From a Wildcats team that reached the Class 5A semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Miami Central, Baker County has some key players back in 2022. The Wildcats should again be strong along the defensive side of the ball, especially with their pass rush, and will have a stout running game again as well.

One of the top preseason teams in 2S-District 5, Baker County is a candidate to make another deep run in the playoffs in 2022.

Prediction

Baker County will win 10 games and reach at least the regional semifinals.
