Blessed Trinity Flag Football QB Julia Geis Voted ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School Flag Football Player Julia Geis Named ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month for December 2022

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School flag football QB/ATH Julia Geis is the ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month for December 2022, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance. The junior led her team to a 17-2 season and the GHSA Class 6A/7A state championship. The Titans won a 19-13 double OT thriller over the Milton Eagles, and Geis capped off a great season with clutch performances in the playoffs and into the title game.

Just like in 11-on-11 tackle football, the QB is the most critical position in flag football, and Geis’s performance was a major reason for her team’s success. During the regular season, Geis completed 64% of her passes, throwing for over 2,700 yards and 46 TDs.

According to head coach Brandon Harwell, who has been the head coach of the Blessed Trinity flag football team since they launched the sport last year, Geis joined the team in the final week of the season last year, coming over to play football after her season with the Titans softball team was over. Expecting to join the team likely in a support role, Harwell explained that it became much more than that.

“Julia had to step in and take over for our starting QB in the playoffs last year,” Harwell said. “It was a tie game in the second round of the playoffs when Julia came in. She led us to the win in that game, then into the quarterfinals two days later. We knew then that she was going to be a special player.”

Harwell said that momentum carried right over into this season, leading to Geis’s incredible performance all season long. He said she worked hard to make sure to get her teammates involved in the offense.

“We had seven players with over 150 yards receiving this year, and Julia just relished being able to distribute the ball to each of them,” said Harwell, adding how much the junior loves just being on the field, whether it’s a practice or game. “Julia loves flag football, and she had a smile on her face during every drill this season, even when she got the opportunity to take part in defensive drills too.”

Like last year, when Geis came over to the football team and contributed right away, she rose to the occasion late this season also when it mattered the most.

“Yes, Julia had a great season, but she really saved her best performance for the final week of the season, into the semifinals, and then into the championship games,” Harwell said.

According to the second-year head coach, Geis threw for 226 yards and six TDs with zero interceptions, while completing 71% of her passes.

Like the great ones do when the game is on the line, Geis rose to the occasion. Her 46-yard TD pass gave Blessed Trinity the lead over Milton in the state title game. Then, with the game tied at 7 heading to OT, Geis once again came up big, tossing another TD pass, this one for 6 yards to give her team a 13-7 lead.

With the score tied at 13-13 now in a second OT, Blessed Trinity just needed to score to win the game. Geis would toss her third and final TD pass to give her team the state championship by a 19-13 final score.

Not surprisingly, Geis is quite an accomplished student. She was selected by the faculty at Blessed Trinity as a Student Ambassador, an honor reserved for only about 3% of the entire student body, according to Harwell. As far as other sports, in addition to flag football, the junior still plays softball, along with basketball and golf.

Geis was gracious when told she was voted the Female Athlete of the Month.

“There was not just one play or person that made the season a success,” she said. “It is incredible to share this accomplishment with everyone on my team.”

Geis’s parents are Jack and Re’An Geis.

Congratulations to Blessed Trinity’s Julia Geis, the ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month for December 2022, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance.
