Bears Trying to Live Up to Their Motto

The Bartram Trail Bears have what seems to be a monumental season ahead of them. With 40 returning seniors, they may have the firepower to make it all the way in 2017.

That’s not to say that the Bears didn’t have a great season in 2016. They made it to the third round of the 7A division playoffs losing to Lee who would go on to lose to Plant. The bears also struggled with their divisional games against Ponte Vedra and Buchholz.

“Our motto is always excellent,” Head Coach Derrell Sutherland said. “We strive to get better every week.” The Bears had a few bumps in the road early on in the season but seemed to come together come playoff time.

With so many returning players the Bears have a chance to do something great this season. They now have the experience and leadership needed for a team to win it all.

“Biggest strength physicality, multiple year starters, fearless fast football because they know what they are doing and they have gained the confidence because of their preparation,” Sutherland said. “I think the teamwork, this is a group that really enjoys working together.”

With the 17 years of coaching experience that Coach Sutherland brings to the table and the playoff experience that the returning players have, the Bears might be a team people should watch out for.
