We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Armwood football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.
2021 Stats
- Overall Record: 4-6
- Points Scored: 263
- Points Allowed: 133
Key Losses
Arguably Armwood’s biggest loss comes along the offensive side of the ball in running back James Smiley Jr., who accounted for almost all of the Hawks’ rushing production a year ago. The Hawks also lost one of their top receivers, Kenny Fleming, to graduation.
Defensively, two-way player Kye Stokes probably is the biggest name who has moved on. Some of the Hawks’ other leading tacklers also have to be replaced, including Jyrin Eston, Jerry Johnson, Jakobe Williams, and Khalif Hector, as well as defensive end Kenny Dantzler, who transferred to Tampa Bay Tech.
Who’s Back
For an Armwood team that returns a notable amount of production from a year ago, the offense is the key talking point. Quarterback Murdolph Jones is back, as is his top target, rising junior Malik Brown. That duo should be one of the top QB-WR connections in 3M-Region 1 this season.
On defense, the Hawks’ biggest returnees come in the duo of Damenon Hughes and Jaylin Crumby, both of whom were among Armwood’s top tacklers in 2021. Rising sophomore Zamari Hall also is a key player who’s back, and RJ Stroud, Jaron Powell, and Calen Sutherland all could play significant roles.
What to Expect
Competing in a deep 3M-Region 1, Armwood is an intriguing team to watch for entering the 2022 season. The Hawks will be talented on both sides of the ball, in particular on offense with the duo of Jones and Brown, but the biggest question facing Armwood this season will likely come at running back. Still, Armwood is well-positioned for a strong 2022 season, with the Hawks likely being in playoff contention in Class 3M when the Florida high school football playoffs approach in November.
Prediction
Armwood will win six games and be in playoff contention in 2022.
