Alexandria High School Volleyball Player Kailey Dickerson Named ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for August 2023
Alexandria volleyball standout Kailey Dickerson, one of her state’s top outside hitters, has been voted the ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for August 2023. Dickerson amassed 33.18% of possible votes over three additional finalists, each of whom attend one of the state’s larger schools: Jasper’s Alayna Hattaway, Bob Jones’ Kennedy Vaughn, and Bayside Academy’s Maysie Douglas.
With no games yet played this season, the August Athlete of the Month honor takes a similar approach to what we did in July by recognizing an “Athlete to Watch” in 2023, and that’s exactly what Dickerson is. The senior was one of the top players for an Alexandria volleyball team that made a Class 5A regional appearance a year ago, and she was voted to the 2022 AL.com Super All-State volleyball team at season’s end.
As a junior, Dickerson certainly impressed for the Valley Cubs, finishing the year with a stat line of 601 kills, 195 digs, 31 blocks, and 95 aces. Not only did she finish among the 5A leaders in kills, she also ranked among the state’s top players in that category as well. Easily one of the top players returning in Class 5A, Dickerson is poised for an even bigger season than her 2022 campaign, and she is sure to play a key role for Alexandria this fall.
