Top 5 Alabama high school football fanbases in every classification

Alabama is a state not only loaded with talented programs, but also massive fan followings, or in others terms, fanbases.

In high school football, a passionate and engaged fanbase can be a huge factor in success of a program, creating a palpable level of excitement Friday night, as well as off the field in today’s age of social media.

So, similar to what we did recently in Georgia, let’s take a look at our top five high school football fanbases in every AHSAA classification.

Class 7A

  • Auburn
  • Thompson
  • Hoover
  • Central-Phenix City
  • Vestavia Hills

Many of 7A’s top programs have significant fan followings that give these teams essentially a home environment in any road game they may play. In addition to that, programs such as Hoover, Thompson, and Auburn have large social media followings, and are teams who are recognized all across the nation, leading to annual games against high-profile teams from out-of-state.

Class 6A

  • Mountain Brook
  • Saraland
  • Spain Park
  • Homewood
  • Clay-Chalkville

Many of the top 6A powers in the Birmingham metro area have large fanbases, headlined by Mountain Brook and Spain Park. Elsewhere, one of 6A’s top fanbases resides in Mobile with Saraland, who is one of the best in south Alabama.

Class 5A

  • Moody
  • UMS-Wright
  • Central-Clay County
  • Scottsboro
  • Fairview

Class 5A’s top fanbases feature programs such as Moody and UMS-Wright among the top of the list. Both of these create strong home environments while also traveling well, as do others such as Central-Clay County and Scottsboro.

Class 4A

  • West Morgan
  • Anniston
  • Plainview
  • Hamilton
  • Madison Academy

Class 4A is home to multiple fanbases who create challenging gameday environments for opposing teams on Friday night. Among those are the likes of West Morgan, Plainview, and Hamilton, among others.

Class 3A

  • Piedmont
  • Mars Hill Bible
  • Fyffe
  • Glenwood
  • Lee-Scott

Programs such as Piedmont, Mars Hill Bible, and Fyffe have some of the biggest followings in Class 3A. Recent AHSAA newcomers such as Glenwood and Lee-Scott also have some engaged fanbases, both of which travel very well to road games.

Class 2A

  • Pisgah
  • Tuscaloosa Academy
  • Reeltown
  • Vincent
  • Coosa Christian

One of the state’s lower classifications, 2A, is headlined by programs such as Pisgah and Tuscaloosa Academy. Programs such as Reeltown and Coosa Christian have also emerged into some of 2A’s best with large followings.

Class 1A

  • Maplesville
  • Leroy
  • Wadley
  • Hackleburg
  • Spring Garden

Concluding with a look at Class 1A, Maplesville and Leroy are among the state’s best when it comes to the lower classification fanbases. Others such as Wadley and Spring Garden also have large fanbases.
