Alabama Game of the Week Preview: Hewitt-Trussville vs. Hoover

Almost every season, the games in Class 7A-Region 3 between teams such as Hewitt-Trussville, Hoover, and Thompson are some of the best in Alabama high school football. The first matchup between two of those teams comes in Week 5 as Hewitt-Trussville hosts Hoover on Friday night.

The Huskies, who are now 3-1 on the year, are coming off their third straight win and their second in 7A-Region 3, having defeated Tuscaloosa County 35-7 on the road. Hewitt-Trussville, which is averaging 42 PPG while allowing only 18.5 PPG, now return home, where they hold a 2-0 record on the season.

Headlining the Huskies offense is quarterback Peyton Floyd, and they have a deep group of receivers in Kadarius Barnes, Jadon Loving, Brett Moseley, Donovan Price, and Jacob Serena. The duo of Kennedy Mitchell and Jaqson Melton feature at running back, while the Huskies defense is led by three top tacklers in Hunter Jones, Braylon Chatman, and Tyrell Averhart, as well as other names such as Hunter Osborne, Rickey Gibson, and Connor Knight.

Hoover also is off to a 3-1 start and is coming off its second straight 7A-Region 3 win, a 20-14 defeat of Vestavia Hills last week. The Buccaneers defense again had an impressive showing and comes into this contest allowing only 12 PPG.

The Hoover offense, which is averaging 28.5 PPG, features Brewer Smith at quarterback playmakers such as Ahamari Williams, LaMarion McCammon, KJ Law, Jordan Woolen, and more. Defensively, Hoover has talent at all three levels, including Bradley Shaw, Kaleb Jackson, and more.

You could argue that these two teams are about even on paper, making this a game with the potential to be close from start to finish. I’ll say Hoover pulls away in the second half, with the Buccaneers winning by at least a touchdown.

Prediction: Hewitt-Trussville 21, Hoover 34
