Tyeshia Williams, a senior basketball player at Chilton County, has been voted the ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for January 2024. For her on-court production in December 2023, Williams received 47.09% of the possible votes over three additional finalists, also basketball players: Victory Christian’s Haley Hendrix, Sand Rock’s Katelyn St. Clair, and Edgewood’s Lindsey Brown.
Williams has played a key role in the Lady Tigers’ start to the season, which had the Class 6A program sitting at 16-8 overall through January 21. One of Alabama’s leading rebounders, Williams is averaging a double-double across 24 games for the Lady Tigers, with 10.6 PPG and 17.4 RPG. Williams has also stuffed the stat sheet elsewhere, averaging 4.8 APG, 5.3 SPG, and 3.8 BPG, with 12 double-doubles and five 20+ rebound games.
December was a solid month for Williams and the Lady Tigers, as Chilton County had a 6-4 mark in 10 games, with the talented forward helping lead the way. During that span, Williams averaged nearly a double-double at 9.4 PPG and 16.5 RPG, plus averages of 4.6 APG, 5.3 SPG, and 3.7 BPG. She posted four double-doubles during the month, two of which came in victories in early December against Montgomery Academy and Jemison.
Williams also had a notable showing in a 60-57 loss to Stanhope Elmore, compiling 14 points, 21 rebounds, 4 assists, 7 steals, and 5 blocks, as well as other strong performances against Moody and Talladega.
