With about 120 teams in 4A swimming in Florida, the Fleming Island boys swim team finished second overall! The best part is being able to do it with just four guys. We are the State Runner-Up to Riverview High School in Sarasota, a perennial state powerhouse.
Here’s where our points came from.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS:
200 Freestyle
- Nick Hackett
- Time: 1:39.04
- AA-Consideration time and new school record

RUNNER-UP TO STATE CHAMPION:
50 Freestyle
- Jack Neeley
- Time: 21.20
- Second place
400 Freestyle Relay
- Nick Hackett, Jack Neeley, Drew Heinton, John Hutton
- Second place
- Riverview beat us by .70 as we swam an AA time of 3:06.19 and a new school record.
OTHER POINTS:
John Hutton
- Third place in 200 IM with an AA time of 1:49.55
- Fourth place in 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.44
Drew Heinton
- Fourth place in 50 freestyle with a time of 21.64
- Seventh place in 100 freestyle with a time of 47.87
We’re excited for our boys. John Hutton is our lone senior and has FSU and a few other schools looking at him. He leaves with school records in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke, and 50 freestyle and as part of all three school relay records. Jack and Nick will come back for one more season of dominating performances, and Drew is only a sophomore, which is pretty amazing. We’re hoping for a quick reload and another great season next year!
