In his first season back home, Head Coach Kevin Womble would manage a 4-6 season, 2 more wins than the prior 2 season’s total. But more importantly to Kevin who played at Holmes and is from Bonifay was changing the culture and setting expectations. He remembers when Holmes County was a force in the panhandle and his goal is to return the Blue Devils to that level.
With over 80 student-athletes out for varsity and JV programs, the future is looking bright. This season is looking promising for the Blue Devils with 15 starters from last year returning and an offense that averaged 30 points per game. Look for their offense to pick up where they left off with QB Shane Sellars, RB Justice Bice, and 4 returning offensive linemen, Ty English, Alex Mancill, Bailey Rich, and Clayton Williams.
On the other side of the ball, returning linebacker Juwan Shack, last year’s leading tackler, heads up a group of 7 returners. The Blue Devil’s defense was proud of having a +11 turnover ratio last year. If they can keep their lineman healthy this team has a chance to make a statement this season.
Another area this team can take pride in is there are 7 starters with over a 3.4 GPA. As per Coach Womble “We try to teach them the qualities to be good football players but those same qualities will enable them to be good citizens, husbands, and fathers.”
