The Lee County Trojans are on a roll to begin the 2016 season. Although early in the campaign, they are among three undefeated teams in the region (along with Colquitt and Tift County). However, not only are the Trojans undefeated in region play, they are the only region team that has yet to lose a game in overall competition this year, having recorded nine straight victories to open the 2016 slate. Two of these wins have come by way of shutout; the Trojans hung 10 runs on Shaw (Columbus, Georgia) and another six on Crisp County (Cordele, Georgia) while holding both opponents scoreless.
They have an opportunity to stretch their season-opening streak to 10 games today when the team squares off against the Wildcats of region opponent Valdosta High School. The Trojans come into today’s contest with six of their batters connecting at .400 or better; this core combined accounts for 45 of the team’s 90 hits and 22 of 45 RBI thus far.
Valdosta enters today’s game having dropped back-to-back games against region opponents (falling 6-5 in Moultrie against Colquitt County and 10-6 at home to Tift County). The Wildcats look to play spoiler on Tuesday evening in Leesburg; a Valdosta win would not only give the ‘Cats their first region win of the year but would also hand the Trojans their first loss.
