Buford Athlete Tyriq “Ty Boogie” Green Among Top 10 Performers in the 2025 Georgia High School Football State Championships

Here are our Top 10 performers from the 2025 Georgia High School Football State Championships.

Top Overall Performers 

Buford High School Athlete Tyriq “Ty Boogie” Green has been Buford’s go-to player during the 2025 regular season, and he stepped up at the most important time in its most important game.

His 82 yard TD run with just under 3 minutes remaining broke a 21-21 tie and gave Buford the GHSA Class 6A State Championship, and a National Championship. He also had another rushing TD earlier in the game, rushing for 184 yards total. He also totaled 5 tackles on defense in the win over Carrollton.

Hebron Christian Senior RB/DB Jarvis Mathurin came up big on both sides of the ball to lead the Lions to their second straight Class A-3A Private State Championship. He had a 58-yard rushing TD and came up with 2 interceptions on defense, the last one coming with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game to clinch the 28-21 state championship over Calvary Day. He also caught two passes, had 2 tackles, and broke up a pass in the win.    

Top Offensive Performers

 Thomas County Central RB Christian “Deuce” Lawrence ended his high school career with back to back record setting performances, including a school record single game rushing record in the semifinals vs Roswell, and then again in the state championship game against Gainesville, where he rushed for a state championship record 380 yards and 5 TD’s to lead his Central team to the Class 5A state title. 

Bowdon QB Josh Hopkins completed 13 of 18 pass attempts for 233 yards passing and 4 touchdowns, including a 4th quarter TD throw to Berkley Perkins that gave the Red Devils the deciding score, and their 4th straight GHSA Class A D-II  state championship. Hopkins also rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries in the win over Lincoln County.

Creekside QB Cayden Benson rushed for 133 yards with 2 TD’s and completed 9 of 17 passes for 161 yards passing and 1 TD to lead the Seminoles to the GHSA Class 4A state championship win in a 42-39 win over Benedictine. 

Top Defensive Performers

Thomas County Central Safety Kobe Carnage had 7 tackles and 3 big turnovers in the red zone that halted Gainesville scoring opportunities at key moments during the game and helped lead the Yellow Jackets to their second state championship in three seasons.   

Carver Columbus DB JaMarcus Davis came up with a 36-yard “Pick 6” Interception return for a TD to stop a Hapeville Charter comeback attempt and seal the victory for the Tigers in a 24-7 win. Davis also had 3  tackles and a fumble recovery to lead the defensive effort for Carver Columbus.

Bowdon DB Mike Patterson came up with a game and championship-saving tackle against Lincoln County just outside the Red Devils goal line to prevent Lincoln County from scoring and preserving the 35-31 lead to give Bowdon their fourth straight state championship. 

Creekside LB Decari Farley had 12 tackles, including 1 QB sack and 1 forced fumble to help lead the Seminoles to the Class 4A state championship. 

Top Special Teams Performers

Benedictine kicker/punter Andrew Ivanciuc was a repeat  ITG Next Top Performer during the regular season, and that consistency in the state championship has earned the standout senior  yet another spot in our final Top Performers. Ivanciuc  connected on both of his FG attempts from 39 and 44 yards, successfully converted both extra point attempts, and averaged  just over 47 yards per kick on 4 punts in the Wolves 28-21 win over Carrollton in the GHSA Class 6A state championship game.
