Key Roster Losses
Colquitt County’s biggest loss may just be four-year kicker Brett Fitzgerald. The always-reliable kicker connected on 12-of-14 field goal attempts in 2024. He also made the longest kick of his career, 52 yards, last season. He has signed with Georgia Military College and is on campus.
The 2025 season will be the first in the last eight years that a member of the Fitzgerald family won’t be taking the field as a kicker at Colquitt County. Ryan Fitzgerald, who is Brett Fitzgerald’s older brother, was Colquitt County’s kicker in the four seasons prior to the younger Fitzgerald taking over kicking duties. Ryan Fitzgerald will start the 2025 season in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers.
Colquitt County’s offense will be without Day’Shawn Brown and Ramsey Dennis. Brown rushed for 1,301 yards and 16 TDs in 2024, leading the team with 17 total TDs. Dennis rushed for 273 yards and three TDs last season.
The defense enters this season without several key players who have moved on, including defensive lineman Jartavius Fluonoy, defensive lineman Amari Wilson, and defensive back and kick returner Jahboris Fuller. Fluonoy and Wilson led the team in sacks last year with 18 ½ sacks combined.
Key Players Returning
Returning to the Pack is four-star running back Ty’Jaevian “Jae” Lamar, who will become the primary rusher in Colquitt County’s offensive attack this season. He had 885 yards rushing on 112 carries last year with 11 TDs. He also caught eight passes out of the backfield for 172 yards and two TDs in 2024.
Quarterback Cohen Lawson returns after battling through a few injuries in his freshman season, and he has receiver Na’Ryan Sumlin returning too.
Offensive and defensive lineman Kamdon Gay will be back.
Other players returning on defense are defensive lineman Stacey Lambright, defensive back Alfonso McNeil, and linebacker Brayden Ruis.
What to Expect From the Colquitt County Packers in 2025
Colquitt County and head coach Sean Calhoun will be aiming for their fourth straight region championship, which would be a first in the school’s history.
For Calhoun, winning the region title is but one of two major goals for the Packers.
“Our expectations and goals are to first win the region, then win the state championship,” Calhoun said.
Calhoun said the team will return a good nucleus of young players from last year who will be counted on this year.
“We played numerous sophomores and a few freshmen last year who will play a pivotal role this season,” Calhoun said.
Replacing the entire kicking game, including Fitzgerald, long snapper Chason Glenn, and holder Logan Morris, has Calhoun worried.
“We’re gonna have to find not just one guy but three guys in our kicking game this season,” Calhoun said.
2025 Season Prediction
Colquitt County will be solid in 2025 under Calhoun. The Pack will finish 9-4.
