3-Sport Athlete Bo Walker Voted 2024 ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to three-sport athlete Bo Walker, the 2024 ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Year, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance. Four nominees were considered for the honor, and Walker received the majority of votes to win.

“I want to thank ITG Next Georgia for being selected as the Athlete of the Year,” Walker said. “It feels deserving that the amount of work I put into my game is starting to show, and it feels good to be recognized doing something I love. But I couldn’t do none of this without God and my family, so I am thankful for this. But the marathon continues.”

Walker is entering his senior season as a three-sport athlete. Although he is quite the track athlete and a standout baseball player, his football abilities have drawn the most attention, and not just from fans.

After helping his Cedar Grove Saints football team recover from a slow start to the 2023 season, Walker took charge and helped guide his teammates to the Class 3A state championship, a 49-28 win over Savannah Christian Prep.

Walker rushed for 129 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns to help Cedar Grove clinch their second state title in the past three seasons.

The performance capped a junior season that saw him rush for 1,579 yards on 250 carries with 29 touchdowns. He added 37 receptions for 422 yards with one receiving touchdown from his running back spot, giving him a total of 30 touchdowns for the year.

The state title win was icing on the cake for Walker as far as his football season went. Earlier that season, the three-star recruit committed to the University of Georgia Bulldogs, one of many teams vying for his services.

In addition to football, Walker played outfield for the Cedar Grove baseball team and ran track for the Saints, competing in the 100M and 200M events.

John Adams, who was Walker’s head football coach at Cedar Grove the last three seasons, said Walker was one of the best on and off the field.

“He is an all-around very good athlete, and on the field he was one of the best at running between the tackles and catching the ball out of the backfield as a receiver,” Adams said. “He was also a great vocal leader, and he let his actions lead everyone around him.”

Adams, who is now serving as the defensive backs coach at Georgia State University, said Walker worked hard at balancing his two other sports outside of football.

“Bo would play baseball during the week, then would run track on the weekends,” Adams said. “He was a very special athlete.”
