Top 25 Georgia High School Boys Basketball Teams: Classes 1A-DII, 1A-DI, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A

In our final 2023-24 Georgia high school boys basketball Top 25 rankings, Grayson ends the season exactly where they started: at the top. The Rams finished the season with a 30-2 overall record.
About this year’s team, Grayson boys basketball head coach Geoffrey Pierce said: “We knew we had a chance to be really good. We only graduated one senior from our (2023) Final Four team, so I knew we’d have great depth as well. They took the sting from that Final Four loss (last year) and really used it as fuel to work hard this offseason.”
Grayson’s last victory of the season was a 51-41 win over McEachern in the Class 7A state final. Ironically, Grayson kicked off their championship-winning season in November with a win over those same McEachern Indians.
Pierce said that he feels good about next year too.
“We return two All-State starters in Jake (Jacob Wilkins) and Amir Taylor, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how my underclassmen develop this offseason,” Pierce said.
The four highest-ranked teams from our previous poll all advanced to their respective state final games, with two of the four winning it all. In addition to Grayson winning in Class 7A, Sandy Creek won the Class 3A championship, while our previously ranked No. 2 and No. 3 teams each lost in their championship games.
Somewhat surprisingly, six of the 16 teams that played for a state championship were not previously ranked.
Ten teams that were previously unranked made a late-season surge with at least a Final Four appearance to end the 2023-24 season as one of our ITG Next Top 25 Georgia high school boys basketball teams.

The opening round of the Georgia high school boys basketball state playoffs gave us a few upsets, including some that came against four of our previously ranked teams.
The highest ranked team to go down was No. 12 Shiloh, who was upset by previously unranked Douglas County 54-41.
The other ranked teams that fell were No. 15 Etowah, who lost to Alpharetta, and No. 16 Lee County. The Trojans were hoping to make another trip to the Class 6A state championship game, but lost to Riverwood in their first-round matchup.
The season is finally over for Cedar Grove after falling to No. 16 Hebron Christian in a rare first-round battle of ranked teams.
Head coach Alan Whitehart’s Milton boys join the rankings this week, debuting at No. 17.
Others rewarded for their playoff victories are Savannah, who rejoins the Top 25 after falling out of the rankings two weeks ago; Langston Hughes, another team making its way back into the rankings; and Douglas County, who enters the Top 25 after upsetting Shiloh.

As region tournaments begin across the state, our latest 2023-24 Georgia high school boys basketball rankings don’t necessarily have a lot of changes compared to our previous Top 25 poll. That’s been the case with the last two polls as the upsets have been almost non-existent.
The Grayson Rams continue to occupy the No. 1 spot as they have all season. The top eight spots also remain unchanged from our previous poll, but we do see some movement among teams No. 9-19.
Our new No. 15 team, Etowah, is the biggest mover this week, leaping up nine places from No. 24 after scoring an impressive, last-second win over No. 4 Sandy Creek.
Walton and Columbia have fallen out of this week’s poll, allowing Cedar Grove and Dutchtown to move into the Top 25 after being previously unranked.

Our latest 2023-24 Georgia high school boys basketball poll has the top teams staying, well, at or near the top. In our previous update to the rankings, we had a number of wholesale changes in the top 10, including the top spot, but things have settled over the past two weeks.
The Grayson Rams, who are 19-2 on the season, remain at No. 1 with no arguments. Coach Geoff Pierce’s team survived an OT game versus another Rams squad, Newton, last week, outlasting the visitors from Covington by a 76-70 final. In their most recent game prior to the release of this poll, Grayson defeated Brookwood in a region contest that was not nearly as close or nail biting as their match with Newton. The 22-point home victory over the Broncos moved Grayson one step closer to the 20-win mark.
The big mover in this week’s ranking is defending Class 2A state champion Westside (Augusta). After spending the previous month at No. 18, Westside secured a 13-point win over a top-10 ranked Thomson on the Bulldogs’ home court last week, handing Thomson their first loss of the season.
We also have a new team debuting in the top 10 as Walton enters the poll at No. 9. Other new faces that made this week’s poll include Monroe, North Oconee, Portal, and Etowah.

Georgia boys high school basketball has entered the region portion of the 2023-24 season, and our latest rankings see several changes in the Top-10, including the top spot. That now belongs to the Grayson Rams, who have suffered just one loss on the season, a five-point defeat to the undefeated and top-ranked Blazers of Ridgeview High School from Columbia, South Carolina. Grayson is 15-1 overall.
McEachern moves up to the No. 2 spot after defeating previously top-ranked Alexander 58-46 on January 6. Five other teams – Sandy Creek, Wheeler, Pace Academy, Kell, and Shiloh – all maintain their positions in the Top-10 from our previous poll. Georgia may be known for its great high school football, and rightfully so, but the level of basketball, especially at the top of the rankings, is as good as any prep hoops in the country.
Elsewhere, several new teams have earned their way into our Top-25. Thomson enters the rankings as a Top-10 team after not being on the list at all in our previous update. The Bulldogs have been rewarded for their undefeated start by making their debut at No. 9 this week. Other new teams in our Top-25 include two members of Class 1A-DII: Decatur’s Greenforest Christian and Christian Heritage of Dalton. One of last year’s Class 6A state finalists, Lee County, also finds its way into the Top-25 for the first time this season. The Trojans are off to a great start at 15-2. Carver-Columbus, Buford, Holy Innocents’, and Butler round out the new teams in this week’s ITG Next Top-25.

The 2023-24 Georgia boys high school basketball season is off and running, and as the teams get ready to head into their various holiday tournaments, we give you our second Top-25 composite rankings of the year. We see a change at the top this week as Alexander moves into the No. 1 spot. The Cougars were our No. 7 team to start the season, but they have stayed unbeaten so far through the first month, with one of their wins coming against coach Larry Thompson’s talented Wheeler squad.
You can probably expect the race to be pretty tight as the top teams feel each other out and begin to separate from the rest of the pack. Speaking of the rest, we welcome a couple of newcomers, with Portal joining the Top-25 after an undefeated start to the season, along with another undefeated squad, Madison County. With that, here’s a look at our new latest Georgia boys basketball rankings.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Georgia high school boys basketball season. Once again ITG Next Georgia will offer you our weekly rankings of the Top-25 teams, encompassing all eight GSHA classifications. In high school basketball, teams at smaller schools can be just as dominant as the higher classification teams, so we believe it’s most effective to simply rank the best 25 teams, period.
We start the 2023-24 Georgia high school boys basketball season with Wheeler as our top pick in the Week 1 rankings. But there’s a long way to go, so expect our Top-25 to look different from week to week.
